Walnut Creek Down Payment Assistance Program

Are you looking to buy a home but can't seem to come up with the down payment?  Help might be in order.  Last time I checked, this program is still available.  Many communities offer a home buyer assistance program to assist low and moderate income folks buy their first home.

However, the program offered by the city of Walnut Creek is among the very best that I have seen.  The city will commit up to 17% of the appraised or actual sales price (whichever is lower), towards the 20% traditional down payment of a Walnut Creek home.  You must have the ability to come up with 3% of the down payment and at least 1/2 of the closing costs.  The city of Walnut Creek can contribute up to 1/2 of the closing costs.  There is a maximum amount that the city will assist, which is $45,000.  The amount contributed by the city is in the form of a second mortgage that does not have to be repaid until the property is either sold, refinanced, or default of first loan.  Interest on this loan is in the form of equity share.

You must be either a Walnut Creek resident (90 days minimum) or work in the city to qualify for this program.

Other restrictions and limitations apply.
